Adjusting Your Lens | From Obstacle to Opportunity

Adjusting Your Lens | From Obstacle to Opportunity

What are you thinking about these days?

Is your self-talk limiting or empowering you? I ask because in this pandemic, or any major disruption, it is predictable that we sometimes worry and become anxious. However, when those feelings become all-consuming, it makes it harder for us to look up and recognize opportunities.

I remember being part of a project meeting in which there seemed to be no good news. After we talked about all the things that could go wrong, I remember someone saying, “If you could stop catastrophizing for a minute, we might be able to come up with a creative solution.”  What a concept!

Catastrophizing—falling into assuming the worst possible outcome. It’s a good reminder to ourselves that what we say to ourselves matters. It can cause us to recoil or step up.

While I’m not suggesting we just “be happy”, far from it. I am suggesting we spend more time looking for positive signs and possible opportunities—to get up and running more quickly.

Stay safe. Be well.
