If you do one thing today…

If you do one thing today…

Why do airlines ask us to put our own oxygen masks on before helping others? Because they know that unless we take care of ourselves, we cannot assist others.

Just breathe

Business disruptions are always vexing, and COVID-19 is a doozy. But as I sit here today in my under- equipped home office, I’m feeling reflective. If I’ve learned anything in decades of helping companies navigate change, it’s this: before you can take care of business, you have to put your own mask on.

All of us—especially those in leadership positions—have people who count on us to show them the way. Sometimes, that’s as easy as inhaling. In just a few deep breaths, we can move through the fear.  Gain clarity. And start making sound decisions about our lives and businesses.

Some ideas to get you started.

Take six deep breaths.
Say a prayer.
Meditate.
Take a walk, run, ride or swim.

JUST REMEMBER: the goal is to get your brain online and above the disorienting noise of the anxiety around us.

This may surprise you.

I’m completely exhilarated by this time we’re in together. Why? Because tomorrow, S4 will announce the launch of a platform nearly 40 years in the making. It’s a simple, automated, nimble and positive way to help companies take care of their people, customers and businesses now and well beyond COVID-19. Take a deep breath. Help is on the way.
